A few weeks back I wrote an article about several places you could look to draw inspiration. Those places included album covers, music videos, cinematic opening sequences, documentaries and print ads. *(You can read that article here.)
But watching ads can do the same, especially if you can weed through the clutter and garbage. Some creatives, agencies and brands will harness the power of creativity and find ways to unleash it.
Here are ten ads that I will always look back on to find inspiration.
Jack Daniels - Old No. 7
The fluidity and mystery of this ad is the perfect complement to a glass of whiskey. Story will always rule.
Chipotle - Back to the Start
The beginning, the journey, the downfall and comeback. All powered by simplistic visuals.
Chipotle - Scarecrow
Hard to follow up the former but nailed the cover track.
Volkswagen - Pink Moon
That all so relatable moment when you just go for a joy ride with friends in silence.
Gatorade - 23 vs 29
A great play on wisdom vs youthful talent/skill.
Nike - Tag
How to appeal to an entire audience.
Metro Trains - Dumb Ways to Die
Not much to say, just ropes you in for a joy ride.
Monster.com - When I Grow Up
We all strive for middle management.
John Lewis - The Bear and the Hare
The making of might be more impressive than the actual spot.
Honda - Paper
Sometimes how you tell the story, amplifies the story into a new realm.
